Flows and AI
Make typed voice prompts
Type what callers hear in a menu, a queue or a closed message, pick a voice, listen and save. The prompt is installed on your phone system for your flows.
Steps
Open Voice prompts
Choose Voice prompts in the menu, next to Flows. You need the right to manage flows.
Know what a typed prompt is
Every step of a call flow that speaks plays a recording from your phone system. Instead of recording and uploading audio, you can type the words: the platform's own voice engine speaks them once when you save, and the audio is installed on your phone system under a name such as
custom/tts-welcome. No text or audio goes to another company. Prompts are made by administrators who can manage flows.Open the prompts
On Flows, choose the link Typed voice prompts at the top of the page. It lists Your prompts with their state. You can also make a prompt in place while you build a flow: under any recording field of a call step, choose Type the text instead.
Start a new prompt
Choose New prompt. Type the Name on the phone system: lower-case letters, digits, - and _, up to 56 characters. Flows play the prompt by this name, so it cannot be changed after you save. When you start from a flow step, the name and the text are suggested from the step.
Choose the voice
Pick the Language, then a Voice (each is marked female or male) and a Speed: 80 %, 90 %, Normal, 110 % or 120 %. Voices are offered for English (United Kingdom), German, French, Spanish, Italian and Greek.
Type what callers hear
In What callers hear, type plain text, at most 1,000 characters. Write
[pause]for a one-second pause, or[pause 2]for two seconds; a pause can be 0.1 to 10 seconds, at most 20 of them and 30 seconds in all. Pauses and spaces do not count towards the characters. Tags such as speak are refused: what you type is what is said. The counter shows the characters and the price of saving.Listen before you save
Choose Listen to hear the prompt. Listening is free. Change the text, voice or speed until it sounds right.
Save it
Choose Save prompt. The audio is made and sent to each of your phone systems; callers hear it within a minute or two. While it is made the prompt shows Being made, then Ready. When you saved from a flow step, the step's recording field is filled with the prompt's name.
Use it in a flow
In a call step's Recording for voice (custom/name), type the prompt's full name, for example
custom/tts-welcome, or save it from that field with Type the text instead. It works in messages, menus, questions, one-time codes, the closed message (an End step after opening hours), a queue's waiting announcements and the callback offer. See Build a flow or phone menu (IVR).Change, replay or delete a prompt
On the prompts page, Play plays the audio callers hear now. Change opens the editor: edit the text, voice or speed and choose Save the change. A call already playing the old audio finishes with it; the next call hears the new one. Delete removes the prompt from the platform and from your phone system.
Use your own recording
To play a recording of your own, use Upload recording on the same page. Choose a WAV file of up to eight minutes; it is converted for your phone system and is free. It goes wherever a typed prompt goes, and a new file under the same name replaces the old one.
Good to know
- Saving is paid from your prepaid balance for each started block of 250 spoken characters, when the audio is made. Changing only the label, saving the same words again, or going back to the text callers already hear costs nothing. If the balance cannot pay, the prompt waits and is made once you top up.
- If the page says typed prompts have no price on your account, they cannot be saved until your provider adds them to your rate card.
- A prompt that shows Not made could not be spoken by the voice engine. Choose Try again; if it fails again, shorten the text or pick another voice. Until a new version is ready, callers keep hearing the earlier audio.
- Previews are limited to 20 per person in ten minutes and 120 per account in an hour. Past that, wait a minute before listening again.
- A prompt that a flow still plays, in its draft or a published version, cannot be deleted. Choose another recording in those flows first.
- A phone system that is offline receives the prompt when it connects again.
- Typed prompts are a paid feature that can be switched off on Feature access. When it is off, Type the text instead is not offered, but prompts already saved keep playing.
