Numbers and phone lines
Connect a phone supplier as a phone line
Add the supplier that carries your calls: the addresses it sends from, a cap on calls and the numbers the line may dial.
Steps
Collect the details from your supplier
You need the IPv4 addresses the supplier sends calls from, the host and port to send calls to, the transport, how many simultaneous calls it allows, its codecs and the caller ID it has confirmed you may present.
Add the line
Open Phone lines and choose Add a phone line. Enter the Supplier name. In Addresses the supplier sends from, one per line, list the addresses (a range is written with /nn): these are the only addresses that may place calls on this line.
Set the limits
Set the host, port and transport, and the Channel cap, the most simultaneous calls on the line (0 stops all calls). Choose the codecs.
Choose the caller ID
Choose Withheld, or show a verified number. A number can be shown only when it is verified: see Caller IDs and how a number is verified.
List the numbers the line may dial
In Numbers this line may dial, one pattern per line, start with the country code and at least three digits, then X for any digit, for example
4471XXXXXXXX. Each pattern is also accepted with + or 00 in front. A line without patterns takes calls in only.Save and open the firewall
Choose Save line. The page then lists the addresses to add to your phone server's firewall; the platform does not change that firewall itself.
Check the route order and apply
Route order by cost shows, for each dial pattern, the lines tried in order, lowest rate first, from the latest buy rates. Then use Apply to phone system to send the change.
Good to know
- A line can be switched off with Disable and back on with Enable, and changed with Edit.
- While your desk is on a trial, only the ranges of the country you signed up in are routed, and premium-rate ranges never are, whatever the line allows. If that country is not supported yet, the phone system builds no outbound routes until you choose a plan.
