Put the phone inside your CRM

Show your team's phone inside your CRM's pages: list the sites allowed to show it, add it to the CRM, and let agents connect, call and save call notes there.

Last checked For: Administrators and agents

Steps

  1. Know what it does

The phone in your CRM is the console's own phone in a frame next to the CRM record: dial pad, incoming calls, mute, hold, transfer and conference, the CRM's contact and call notes. Agents dial from any number in the CRM without leaving the page, and the CRM hears every call ring, connect and end. Calling in the console works as before.

  2. Check that the feature is on

The feature is Phone in your CRM on Feature access. While it is off for the account, no site can show the phone. While it is off for a person, their phone in the CRM stops and shows: The phone in your CRM is not available to you. Ask your administrator.

  3. List the sites allowed to show the phone

Open API and webhooks and find the Phone in your CRM card. In Allowed sites, enter your CRM's address, one per line, such as https://crm.example.com, or https://*.example.com for every subdomain. Choose Save; the console answers Saved. With no site listed, which is the default, no site can show the phone.

  4. Copy the account ID

The same card shows Account ID for the SDK: followed by your account's ID. Whoever adds the phone to your CRM needs it.

  5. Add the phone to your CRM

Your CRM's developer or administrator loads the phone script from your console's address, gives it a place on the page and your account ID, and wires the CRM's phone numbers to it. The iframe needs the microphone. The steps, commands and call events are in the developer guide (/developers/embed/). You need a CRM that lets you add your own script or iframe to its pages.

  6. Connect as an agent

In the CRM, the phone shows Connect your phone. Choose Connect: a small window opens on your console. If you are not signed in, choose Sign in and sign in; the window carries on by itself. Then choose Connect to let the CRM use your phone, or Cancel. The window says Connected. This window closes now. You connect once per browser.

  7. Make and take calls

Click a phone number in the CRM, or use the dial pad, to call. Incoming calls ring in the phone. The Contact section shows the CRM record you are on, or No contact selected. If the phone cannot use your microphone, the platform rings your own phone first and then the customer.

  8. Save a call note

During or after a call, write in Call notes and choose Save note. The note is saved to the call as an internal note, for your team to read, and the console answers Note saved.

  9. Sign out

Choose Sign out at the top of the phone. The phone's session ends; the next use needs Connect again. Each connection also shows as a session on your Security page.

Good to know

  • Addresses must use https. http is allowed only for localhost and 127.0.0.1, for testing. An address is a host with an optional port, nothing else. A wildcard covers subdomains only, never a whole top-level domain. You can list up to 20 sites.
  • If the phone says This site is not allowed to show the phone. Ask your administrator to add it., the CRM's exact address is not on Allowed sites. A page that itself shows the CRM inside a frame cannot show the phone either.
  • Removing a site from Allowed sites ends every phone session on that site at once.
  • If the phone says Your browser blocked the sign-in window. Allow pop-ups for this site and try again., allow pop-ups for the CRM's site.
  • If the sign-in window says You are signed in to a different account from the one this CRM uses. Sign out and sign in with the right account., sign out of the console and sign in with the account the CRM's phone was set up for.
  • If the phone says Your phone session has ended. Connect again., choose Connect. Idle time-outs, network limits and two-step verification apply to the phone as to any console session.
  • Only people with an agent seat and the phone can connect. If the console is open in another tab as well, one of the two phones loses its registration on the next renewal: use one or the other.
  • If your CRM sends the header Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy: same-origin, the sign-in window cannot hand the session back. The CRM must use same-origin-allow-popups instead.
  • You can save a note once a call has started. Notes are saved to calls you took or made yourself.
