Numbers and phone lines

Buy a number and route it to an agent or a queue

Rent a number from the number shop, choose where its calls go and apply the change to the phone system.

Steps

  1. Make sure the wallet can pay

The activation fee is taken from your prepaid wallet when you buy. Check the balance on Wallet first: see Top up the wallet. A trial cannot buy numbers: choose a plan first.

  2. Find a number

Open Buy numbers. Filter by country and by type (Local, Mobile or Toll-free). Each number shows its activation fee and monthly rental.

  3. Buy it

Choose Buy, then Confirm purchase. The rental is taken on the same day each month.

  4. Choose where calls go

Open My numbers. For the number, set Inbound destination to Agent extension or Queue, enter the Extension or queue name (for example 1001 or Support) and choose Save destination.

  5. Apply the change

A change reaches the phone system only when you apply it. On Agents and extensions, use Apply to phone system: choose Check what will change, then Apply now.

Good to know

  • Routing needs a destination that exists: an active agent's extension, or a queue that has been created and applied. Otherwise the change is refused rather than sending calls nowhere. Create queues in Create queues for calls and messages.
  • An unpaid rental is suspended after the grace period and the number stops receiving calls. Topping up the wallet reinstates it.
  • Release stops the rental. A number you were given another way, such as a supplier's test number, is mapped under Inbound numbers on Agents and extensions.
  • Buying a number does not make it a caller ID: see Caller IDs and how a number is verified.
